Follow the Paper Trail: A Guide to Dallas Stationery Shops
If you’re like me, you probably have too many journals, art supplies, cards, and all sorts of paper products at home. And yet, every time I go to a stationery or art store, I always come home with something. For my fellow paper lovers, here are the best stationery stores in Dallas.
Bonsai Paper Co.
Bonsai Paper Co. started in 2021 as a small, family-run business importing unique paper products from across the globe. Since then, they have evolved in design, voice and style aesthetic, while retaining fine craftsmanship and artist expression. The shop’s name comes from the Japanese art form Bonsai which utilizes horticultural techniques along with artistic applications to cultivate miniature replicas of trees as they've found in nature. The store’s founders seek to connect this artistic tradition with their practice of offering the finest handcrafted products from import vendors around the world.
The store is a beautiful space with a huge selection of cards, wrapping paper, notepads, and writing accessories. It is a calm and clean store too with plenty of space to move around even when there are many people mingling about. One thing I really love about Bonsai Paper Co. is their commitment to being eco-friendly. All the products are packaged in recyclable materials and in some cases, also made from eco-friendly recycled resources.

Kinokuniya USA
Kinokuniya USA is unique on this list because it is more than just a stationery store; it’s a Japanese bookstore selling manga, cookbooks, travel books, children’s books, magazines, graphic novels in both English and Japanese. The flagship Kinokuniya store was founded in Japan in 1927. In the century that followed, the company has expanded to over 80 stores worldwide, including the one here in Dallas.
While manga and anime merchandise are their biggest sellers, many people (like myself) go to peruse their Japanese pens and stationery. Japanese stationery brands and companies have an extremely high reputation worldwide for their quality, versatility, and affordability. My personal favorites were the stickers and washi tapes - they were so cute! All in all, if you love Japanese stationery, you have to come here.

Needle in a Haystack
For over 30 years, Needle in a Haystack has been a premier Dallas destination for high-quality stationery, writing supplies, gifts, and invitations. Family-owned and operated, Bhavna and Yash Parmar have been committed to providing their customers with unrivaled customer service and wonderful products. Needle in a Haystack has been featured in D Magazine, The Wedding Collective, Modern Luxury Dallas, Brides of North Texas, and GrandLuxe Magazine. The shop carries popular and famous brands such as Bella Figura, Crane & Co., Designer’s Fine Press, Lallie, Rifle Paper Co., Vera Wang, William Arthur, The Wren Press, and many others. The shop offers a variety of printing processes including engrave, thermography, letterpress, foil stamp, or lithograph.
Needle in a Haystack is an adorable, charming shop nestled in the heart of Highland Park. I loved rounding the corners of the shop and finding something new. They have a huge selection of themed cards and notepads for everyday use and plenty of blank wedding, baby, graduation, anniversary, and birthday stationery ready to be made to your exact specifications. The staff were incredibly friendly and ready to answer any questions.

Talking Out Of Turn
Since opening in the middle of the 2020 pandemic, Talking Out Of Turn, has garnered a cult-like following in-person and on social media. TOOT, an affectionate nickname coined by the founders Melissa McCauley and Jim Martin, is a great place to find office supplies and gifts for both yourself and loved ones. All the products here are created in the USA by a dedicated team of artists, makers, dreamers, and craftsmen.
Both the inside and outside of Talking Out Of Turn are awash in pink pastels and roses, giving the shop a Barbie-ish aesthetic. Cute and quirky, The Bishop Arts store features an array of colorful, feel-good products, including stationery, planners, stickers, bags, mugs, self-care products, and home goods. It’s the type of store that brightens your mood just by stepping into it (both for the aesthetic and overall atmosphere.)
